Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are and welcome to the latest entry of the My Coach Ben blog.
In this, the latest entry, we’ll be unraveling the touchy topic of Values. This will be expanded in the Podcast (link below) for a more in-depth discussion.
In a nutshell, values provide guidelines that help individuals and groups discern between what is right and wrong, good and bad or important and unimportant;
Values can differ between cultures as well as individuals and organisations – they influence attitudes, behaviors and decision-making and can include integrity, autonomy respect for others fairness responsibility compassion being some examples.
From a coaching perspective, the following questions can help clients that are struggling with values in one way or another. Note, this list is by no means exhaustive!
1. What values are most significant to you in life?
2. How do your behaviors and actions align with these values?
3. What values (if any) feel out-of-step with who you want to be as an individual, that could use improvement?
4. How are these values shaping decisions and relationships among others?
5. Have there been times in your life where your values had to change? How has that felt for you?
6. What additional values would you like to incorporate?
7. Have you ever considered or evaluated what was important in life – if that has happened and what did it reveal about itself?
8. How could living more intentionally align with your values improve your sense of fulfillment and satisfaction in life?
