Lunch and Adapting to Changes, Big and Small

Good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you may be and welcome to the (belated) update for the MyCoachBen blog. Better late than never as we all know, and on the other side, the good news is always worth waiting for.

This year has started off really well. The volunteers continue to progress and one has even opted to pay for the service. A very welcome surprise so many thanks for that…. you know who you are. I’m totally proud that I’ve been able to make a difference and that you’re benefiting from the experience.

To close the month, I gave a long awaited presentation to the British Business Club Düsseldorf this week during one of their networking events. This is a quarterly forum I attend in order to meet other business people to exchange ideas and generally “chew the rag” to coin a well-known British expression.

The presentation covered the basics of what coaching is and the process that I adopt. We had a couple of challenges along the way. We all sat down for the presentation with full stomachs as the program was swapped with lunch before the talk which isn’t the normal course of events.

However, we were all able to resist the urge to have a post-lunch nap and focus on the proceedings. Things were further hampered by the failure of the venue to provide a projector, and so I was left to present with my laptop at the end of the table!

Somebody once said “where there’s a will, there’s a way“, and the way was to improvise on this occasion. The means was not as planned but the end was as desired.

We went through the end to end coaching process. We covered:

  • Life Balance
  • Core Identity vs Beliefs
  • Core Values
  • Purpose
  • Goal-Setting
  • Action

The engagement from the audience was superb and I can’t thank them enough for their participation. What put the icing on the cake was a form expression of interest in starting programs.

What always surprises me about these events is that there is a widespread acknowledgement that we all do not do enough to operate effectively in our day to day endeavours. Whether this is personal or professional.

Summary

The fact is that we should all be doing our best to grow. As we achieve one ambition, we seek another. As we suffer one setback, we are not defeated. This is what keeps us growing and developing as people, in order to get the best from this thing we call life.

This is why Coaching is so important. The need to know ourselves, our boundaries and our purpose has never been greater. The world is changing and so must we.

With the emergence of Digitalisation and all that comes with it: Machine Learning; Artificial Intelligence; Robotics and the rest, there has never been more of a need to know where our strengths lie and what purpose we have. It could well be that our jobs may not exist in the coming years and there we need to retrain and change our perspectives.

Difficult times. However, with these times come opportunities. This is true for all of us. If you would like help in finding your place in the future workplace or even the current one, do get in touch. Rest assured, you’re not alone!

Until next time.
