Another month has passed, and transformation continues apace with my coaching clients. The work described in my last post has continued apace. Much-needed holidays are being enjoyed, responsibility is being taken and plans are now firmly turning into actions.
Welcome back. Another update on the continuing work of the clients. One thing that’s come to the fore is that hard work and belief really does pay off.
A client who I first spoke to in May as a stressed out and overworked executive is now sunning themselves in a far-flung place with their family and maintaining radio silence to the office.
The lazy client has realised that they’re not actually lazy at all and has simply opted to take a different perspective of his time. They’re plugging away at new learning endeavours, now that an important but overlooked qualification is all but complete.
Destructive thoughts have been conquered and life, career and all are now heading in the right direction.
What all of the clients have come to realise, is that life works from the inside out, not from the outside in. The thoughts cultivated and harvested within are the enemy to us rather than pushy bosses, colleagues and clients, or a world that seems to be forever on the brink.
Thoughts
There is one thread that runs through ALL of the above situations. It’s the thought process. It’s fair to say that life is an experiential story. However, by this, I don’t mean that we’re the sum of our experiences; as if to say our experiences have made us who we are. This is a common view, but I take a slightly different one.
What I do mean is that we are the sum of our interpretation of these experiences. You see, sh&t happens. In fact, one same piece of “sh&t” can happen many times over, but we don’t always react in the same way. This is simply due to the way we are thinking on a given day or time in our lives. When things are going “well” bad we see things in a lesser light. When things are going “badly”, then the ground opens to swallow us up!
We try to foresee the outcome of a situation. “How he/she/they would react if I do this/that or the other” Or, How should I react he/she/they do…” you get my point. Most people also know that very, very rarely do things turn out as we thought or expected.
Most people know the term “Overthink“. This refers to our ability to dwell on matters for too long in order to “solve” them. When in fact, the situation or problem will usually resolve itself.
The fact is, that everybody has the ability to be creative. To come up with solutions as and when required. To be resourceful. It may not be apparent in everyone but IT IS there. This is a fundamental part of being human. This is something we are ALL born with. However, this ability, because to the pace and demands of modern life, has been stifled.
My suggestion? Whenever you are “wrestling” with a topic in your mind, let it go. You have the ability to solve it. You can and you will. Bear things in mind by all means but remember, these are just thoughts. When a problem is faced, your natural ability will carry you through.
With the right thoughts, experiences change and these thoughts, my friends, are the sum of all of us.
Until next time,
Your Coach Ben.
